Healing 101: Aligning With Your Higher Self Step 2

Step 2: Clearing the Muck

Interested in accessing your greatest potential? Feel like there is something better you should be doing? Many of us feel that way. We know there is a greater purpose for us but we don’t know what that purpose is. If you are like me, you have tried many healing modalities to get you closer to this place of knowingness.

Healing means bringing your real self into alignment with your higher self. The healer’s intention is to help you discover your authentic self and greater purpose by helping align your real self with your highest potential. The healer knows that they are merely facilitating your own healing. Healing Thyself is the true goal. I have developed a six-step process for helping you heal yourself.

Here are the six steps:

Step 1: Look Inside Your Mind

Step 2: Clear the Muck

Step 3: Discover the treasures

Step 4: Define the Perfect future

Step 5: Create a Feng Shui Vision Board with Power Intentions

Step 6: Take inspired Action

What is Your Higher Self?

Your higher self is who you are intended to be, your spirit self, the highest potential YOU.  Here are synonyms for higher self: Inner Wisdom, Spirit Self, Soul, Essence, Eternal Self, Authentic Self, Atman, Buddha nature, the Divine within, the Tao within, the noble inner voice, divine guidance. It is what God intended us to be.

Why are we not our higher self all the time? Everyone has free will, limitations, personal programing from parents, friends, family and classmates, and experiences that move us away from our highest potential. Someone told us once that we couldn’t sing, we would never make it as an artist, we aren’t smart enough. These moments in our lives hinder our growth and development. Once we realize there is more for us in this world, our job becomes peeling away these layers of limitations to then, reach our highest potential.

Healing is the peeling away of these layers of limitations. Healing begins with knowing yourself and assessing what you want to keep and let go of. It begins with healing the mind and controlling your thoughts. In the first of the series, we talked about identifying what we want to get rid of, now let’s get rid of it.

The Holding

In Step 1, we looked for the rubbish. Who are the toxic people in our lives? What do we want to have different in our lives? What are the tapes that play in our heads? What are our limitations? Those are the uncomfortable moments and issues we don’t often look at. When healing your body, we begin with the mind. When healing the mind, we begin with combing through the muck to unearth the things we need to let go of. Then, we let go of the limitations. Here are two tools for healing the mind, releasing limitations.

My friend, Misa Hopkins, teaches a beautiful method of letting go of the emotions and issues that do not serve us. It is called The Holding. She teaches if you identify an issue or belief that is limiting your growth and potential, you merely Hold it in love until is dissipates. Sounds too easy, right?

Activity:

Take five minutes. Think of something that fires you up—one of your issues. Breathe deeply. Imagine holding this issue in your hands like a ball. Really wrap your hands around the essence of this issue and hold the ball near your heart space. With your mind, send love to this issue and Hold it in love until you feel ready to let go. Let it go and bring your hands together in gratitude. You should feel a sense of lightness. You may need to do this exercise more than once to release long-held beliefs, emotions or issues.

Sometimes what needs to heal are the moments in our lives where someone hurts us. It’s not so much about issues we have or emotions we want to move out. It actually has to do with an event that wreaked havoc on our growth and development.

The Many Yous

A good healing exercise that helps self-heal past wounds is what I call The Many You’s Meditation. The truth is that throughout our life we have made the best decisions we could, given the information we had available at the time. We are always doing our best even when it is not in our best interest. Often, we just don’t know what a better choice would have been. This simple meditation takes us to those moments in our life and helps us HOLD our self in love.

Activity:

Close your eyes and visualize a moving walkway, like the ones at the airport. This one has a slight incline. Now imagine all along this walkway there are a bunch of “yous” —each one represents a super significant moment in your life—they could be painful moments or glorious moments. Starting at the beginning of the “yous,” your youngest self, visualize yourself walking up to the youngest you. Give yourself a giant hug and Hold yourself in complete and total unconditional love. Whisper in your ear what you would have benefited from knowing or hearing at that moment.

Go through all the moments and hug/support all the younger “yous” who were just doing the best that you could at the time. If the moment was a great accomplishment or victory, recognize that and celebrate with yourself. If your experience was anything like mine, no one spent much time celebrating the magic moments of my life at the time they occurred. Often, we had no idea how important they were. Now is a great time to do this. This exercise may take a while. If you don’t finish right now, do this over the course of the next couple weeks. This is an exercise in forgiving and embracing yourself for things we drag into our future and recognizing the glorious moments that made us who we are today.

Forgiveness is the Goal

After these two activities, you should begin to feel lighter. Sometimes identifying our issues and spending time unconditionally loving ourselves despite said issue, the issues simply go away. Forgiveness of others and ourselves is the goal of Step 2. Remember, we are all doing our best, given the information we have at the time. We cannot go back and change anything except how we remember and perceive the situation. When you Hold something in love, you are forgiving it.

Next, we move on to the positive assessment of self. Why are we great? What are our strengths?
